May 2010

My May fishing report is as follows:

The temperature during the month was well below the average and we were still getting some snow on the tops into the middle of the month.
This did not seem to put the fish down and the fish that I saw all seemed to be in good condition. Following on from April we had some super fish caught both in numbers and quality.

2577 Brown Trout were booked for the month, which is well up on the same month last year. The pick of the fish were:

Stuart Crooks.......3lb 4oz
Graham Billin........5lb 2oz
Robin Williams......3lb 4oz
Richard Sturgeon...3lb
Phil Wilson............3lb
Kirk Taylor.............4lb 8oz

So many fish between 2 and 3 lb were booked that we set the bar at 3lb and above.

Congratulations to all, I can see that the "Ian Hay Challenge Cup" will be strongly contested this year as it always is. This will be the 10th year of the challenge cup.

" The Molly Quaich" for the biggest Brown Trout caught on hotel waters by a lady angler is in its first year and hopefully will also be strongly contested.

62 Seatrout/Finnock were caught and released.

There appears to have been quite a number of seatrout/finnock hooked early this year, although, with a few exceptions, the majority have been small but again in good condition.

We look forward to seeing the first Salmon coming off Loch Stack, quite a number have been caught on the river, so surely its just a matter of time.

Best wishes
