Stack’s first salmon.

What a memorable day- 6th June on Loch Stack. My brother, Roy and pal, Steve, accompanied me on a very wet and windy day. Steve and I agreed foul weather can bring results. Having got to Heather Point, wind was all over the place, VERY difficult for the ghillie. However, after half an hour the wind settled to a NW and pretty strong. As we approached Loan we had a tangle to deal with due to strong wind. We had missed the best drift and we backed up toward Green Burn. Jim Hinshelwood had good Brown’s of 1 ¼ lb, 1 ½ lb & a fine 3 ½ lb. Robert Acheson took a fresh 2Lb sea trout off Stack on 1st September & Michael Cartland was rewarded for his week on Stack with a fine Sea Trout of 5 3/4Lb Andy Alford had a lovely 4Lb Sea trout of Loch Stack  Colin Munro had a very good Brown Trout off Strathain weighing in at 4lb 7oz taken on September 17th   A special mention must go the an early season visit to the Laxford by Roy Robinson and Mac Stephenson, they managed a fish …… read more

Noteworthy catches include Peter Hastings second visit with his son Campbell to Stalkers a basket of 35 Trout best 1 ½ lb, Campbell had 3lb fish and was broken by another big fish. Steve Ephlett had over 80 fish for his stay this year, with 26 fish on one outing. Guy Yeoman fishing with his son Ben had over 100 fish for their stay with Dad getting a lovely Brown of 3lb. Graham Woosey’s visit produced 14 Finnock, 2 Char, and a personal best Brown Trout of 4 lb+ off The Old Man on a Gold Body Muddler see below.   Guy Yeoman had a Sea Trout of 1 3/4lb and Phil Smith had two decent Sea Trout. On the 8th July Brian Glover and David Ogg had a day to remember with 10 Brown Trout,3 Sea Trout to 2lb and a superb Salmon of 13lb at 1.40pm in Boathouse Bay on a size 12 Silver Invicta, this fell to David Ogg & a 2.00pm the fish was netted and the lovely fish returned. The month produced well over 500 fish and it was fast and furious for those who escaped to the Hill Lochs. A very nice specimen was caught by Peter Sugden weighing in at 2lb. Messrs Martin & Brooke had a basket of over 40 fish off Stalkers & Les Robertson had good fish up to a best of 3lb. Alistair Duthie had a fish of 23” returned to get even longer. The fishing picked up  and approx 250 Trout came to hand Colin Munro had an early season brace at 2lb and 2lb 4oz returned to fight another day. Atholl Donaldson had a basket of 12 trout with the best at 2lb. Later in the month Colin had a fine fish of 3lb6oz off a’ Mhuirt other fish of note were Mr Lindsay 2lb4oz, Les Robertson 2lb & 3lb3oz and Mr Murray one of 2lb. It is just on three months since we took over here at Scourie and at last I have the time to go through the log and report the season so far. By all accounts this has to be the coldest Spring and Summer in living memory up here. The fishing has not been easy with relentless winds from the East and North keeping the fish down. Despite all this there have been some notable fish caught on the Hotel beats, many in the 2lb - 3lb bracket and with some very nice specimens.
